Contexte & Objective
With increasing concern over the carbon footprint of digital tools, there is a growing need for products that are both efficient and environmentally responsible.
We aimed to :
Make digital sobriety understandable and actionable
Promote behavioral change in a way that feels empowering, not restrictive.
Design with eco-design and accessibility principles at the core.
Problem
Digital pollution is often overlooked due to its invisible nature. Many users are unaware of how much data they consume or how energy-intensive certain habits can be. We needed to :
Educate users without overwhelming them.
Make abstract data (like CO₂ impact) tangible.
Build trust through clarity and usability.
Solution
User Research & Interviews
We focused on young professionals aged 25–30 who are digitally active but not always aware of their environmental footprint. The user journey was designed to : Introduce the issue through storytelling, Show personalized data about their digital habits and Suggest simple, non-invasive actions to improve their impact
Minimalist, Responsible Design
We created a visual identity based on clarity and simplicity, reducing cognitive load and unnecessary visual elements :
Limited use of colors and media to reduce rendering impact.
Optimized fonts and layouts for performance
High contrast and font sizes for inclusivity
Improved Accessibility
We followed WCAG guidelines to ensure the interface was usable by everyone, including : Keyboard navigation, Alt-text for images and Clear call-to-actions with sufficient color contrast
Eco-Design Integration
To reflect our values, the design also minimized data load and used lightweight components. Key strategies included :
Lazy loading for media
No autoplay or unnecessary scripts.
CO₂ score display to increase awareness.
Prototyping & Design
I created an interactive desktop prototype simulating the core experience: from digital behavior assessment to action suggestions. The prototype focused on creating an engaging but efficient experience.
Results
Greater Awareness : Users became more conscious of their digital habits and their environmental impact.
Inclusive Interface : Improved accessibility made the platform welcoming to a wider range of users
Eco-Performance : The design adhered to sustainable principles without sacrificing usability.
