Context & Objective
Zenchef, a leading digital solutions provider for the restaurant industry, partnered with us to develop a new table payment application. The objective was to create an intuitive, fast, and seamless payment process for both customers and servers, improving operational efficiency and boosting restaurant revenue.
This new system aimed to :
Reduce wait times for payments
Increase table turnover.
Improve restaurant revenue by optimizing payment flows and enhancing the user experience.
Problem
The existing payment process in restaurants was inefficient, with long wait times and manual transactions, causing delays and loss of revenue. The challenge was to create a streamlined, quick payment process that would :
Make it easier and faster for servers to process payments.
Improve the payment experience for customers.
Solution
User Research & Interviews
Conducted user interviews with restaurant servers to understand pain points in the current workflow, particularly during the order and payment stages. This helped identify key issues, such as the time-consuming nature of manual payment processing.User Flow & Persona
Created a detailed user flow and persona to map out the ideal user journey, ensuring the application would meet the needs of both servers and customers.Minimalist & Intuitive Design
Developed a clean, minimalist design with an emphasis on ease of use and fast access to essential features. The design prioritized clear call-to-actions (CTAs) for quick transactions, reducing waiting times and improving the user experience for both customers and servers.Payment Integration
Integrated Zenchef's system to provide real-time payment tracking, enabling both contactless payment via QR codes and popular payment methods like Apple Pay and Paypal. The goal was to make the payment process quick, secure, and seamless.Server-Focused Workflow
The design focused on improving the server workflow, reducing unnecessary steps, and ensuring quick access to critical payment options. CTAs were prominently displayed on the homepage for easy access, unlike the previous design where key features were buried in menus.
Prototyping & Design
Using the insights from user interviews, I designed a high-fidelity prototype to visualize the payment process from start to finish :
Streamlined payment flow to minimize wait times.
User-friendly interface for both customers and servers.
Simplified interaction for handling bill splitting and quick transaction processing.
Result
Faster Payment Process: The new application significantly reduced payment wait times, resulting in faster table turnover.
Improved Server Workflow: Servers now have quicker access to payment functionalities, leading to more efficient service.
Increased Revenue: By improving table turnover, restaurants saw an increase in revenue, fulfilling the business objectives.
Tools & Methods Used
F.O.C.U.S.E.D Method : Guided the entire design process with a clear focus on reducing production costs and optimizing product value.
User Interviews : Conducted guerrilla interviews with restaurant servers to gain qualitative insights into their workflow and pain points.
Wireframing & Prototyping : Developed interactive prototypes to visualize the application flow and user interaction.
User Journey Mapping : Mapped out both server and customer journeys to ensure the application worked smoothly for all users.
